Regional Manager - Gulf

People Team • Jan 31, 2022

Regional Director - Middle East - Based primarily out of Dubai.

I’m looking for a Leader, the success will be judged not on their selling ability but on your ability to lead the team across all areas of the business. As a regional Director, you will be judged on performance, someone who can rapidly assimilate, target and seize the market opportunity.

The success we’ve had is built on delivering quality, most clearly in the calibre of our technicians, just as importantly on focus, drive and ceaseless improvement. If anything, the opportunity is getting bigger.

If you’re frustrated by slow decision making and invisibility and want to be judged on the contribution you and your team, make – if you relish the challenge of making a paradigm difference in the market and enjoy working alongside similarly competitive colleagues, I’d like to hear from you.

Easy to say but you need to direct as well as be, very sleeves rolled up – i.e., understand the minutia, detail of company structures, visa, regulation, banking/financial quirks and know the people who are your team

The field you come from is less important than your approach, understanding, drive and leadership qualities; you will have to demonstrate that you have led high performing teams, who delver results.

You will be a successful leader who can demonstrate their contribution, you are the top person in the region and make the decisions and actions are executed. This role also has a seat in wider business strategy meetings which are lead from the UK. We have bigger plans and are expanding current bases in the Middle East and plans for other international territories.

I am keen to hear from you if this whets your appetite, don’t get in touch if you are looking for a 9-5 and cosy existence as that is not us! – It is as I have said, sleeves rolled up and the buck stops with you, it is a way of life, leading the region.

Who are we?

McFarlane Telfer (trading as MCFT)

  • Established January 1992 in the UK
  • Focused on commercial kitchen equipment maintenance
  • Recognised as the standard setter throughout the Middle East, working with well-known international brands and franchises as well as supporting the majority of international OEM’s
  • Extensive expansion plans to open in Oman, Bahrain as well as further afield in the Philippines to aid with recruitment to support growth plans

We are looking for the developing individual who will push forward the operation in the GCC over the short and medium term and then be looking to fulfil a group leadership role in the future, leveraging their particular skills and experience in growing the business.

As a service company, our product is our people – and we work relentlessly to develop and improve the Team at all levels - from Investors in People Platinum to Princess Royal Training Awards to the only City-&-Guilds Assured training programmes in our industry - and yet more developments planned for 2022.

There’s no silver bullet to what we do, it's about absolutely setting the standard, delivering value to clients and working hard to improve every single aspect of our business.

Background:

  • Gulf experience mandatory, not large co/Govt - so small and medium with wide ranging responsibility
  • Field service/maintenance/FM probably useful
  • Fast food/QSR also potential feeder
  • Needs to have been involved in diverse team – i.e., not consultant, has to have run teams of skilled/semi-skilled workers (doesn’t necessarily have to be field service)
  • Could be ex-Gulf returned to UK and wants to head back (though no excessive relocation packages are being offered!)

Requirements:

Sales - Relationship builder and holder of extremely important personal relationships with key clients – QSR and OEM, variety of people from different backgrounds. Able to scope, structure, price sometimes complex agreements/deals. Understands commercial position of customers and able to work around it so “everyone wins” but knows when to not pursue something. Doesn’t need to be L1 hunter but must have an eye for 4d opportunities and knows how to swoop when target acquired.

Ops – Doesn’t need to be technical expert coming in (though will need to learn basics), has to have some experience of field service and nuances of running a Technical Team. Ideally a futurist looking to push forward, we won't deliver differentiated service with old fashioned views. People focused, values investment in people, sees team as individuals.

Finance – Fully understands (and has been accountable for) regional P&L performance, confident in translating between real world business actions/plans and eventual financial reports. Can effectively model/use data, has intuitive feel for back of envelope style forecasts/projections.

Personal

High amounts of regional travel are not only required but individual needs to have a drive to get up and get about if business depends on it.

  • Judgement – real-life experience which forms sound decision-making
  • Intellect – may not seem it but this is a subtle, nuanced business
  • Curiosity – the world is developing – we need to be ahead of the next move
  • Application – there is no alternative to hard work
  • Consultative – whilst one person shoulders the burden, good decisions are verified
  • Engagement – with customers, the supply chain, most of all, colleagues
  • Presentation – articulate, literate, design-aware
  • Resilience – turning setbacks into opportunities
  • Integrity – no politicians need apply
  • Balance – perspective, valuing diversity, open to new ideas
  • Drive – passion, energy, excitement, the smell of gun-smoke, the spirit of adventure

Send over your CV and a short note to the recruitment team, why you have an interest in being the next me!
