What's it like working at MCFT?

Cerys - 2022 intake - Catering Technician

I’ve been in the business 9 months now, really enjoying it – especially visiting the customers we work for – very well-known international businesses. There might even be an opportunity to see the world – one of our groups has been over in Qatar helping with the equipment for the World Cup.

The reason I joined was I was interested by the electrical aspect and that is extensive and then there’s also the gas appliances we look after.

And it’s great to hear comments from our customers: “nice to see a woman doing this job”.

Hopefully I’ll stay with the company for a long time – one day I’d like to be a coach myself and give others the opportunity to learn an interesting and well-rewarded job.

Shannon - 2021 intake - Refrigeration Trainee

It's been a pleasure working at MCFT. The role has allowed me to train and increase my knowledge from the moment I started with my coach. I had no experience or background in refrigeration as I used to work in an office doing sales, so this had been a great opportunity allowing me to learn with no experience.

It has given me the hands-on training I wanted within the role and allowed me to delve deeper into theory at the training centre at Ascot. After recently passing my F-gas qualification, I've still got the help and support to allow me to grow my knowledge and further my experience on the road and build up my confidence and relationships with customers- I even had the chance to work for 2 weeks with our team in the Netherlands, helping them out when they were busy.

Sam -

Been a very enjoyable journey and feel like the 6 years have flown by to be honest.

Starting off: did not know a thing about the industry nor how to use tools, but soon found that I was around a great company that want to develop people into good all round engineers.

The training from coaches, team leader and team members surprised me if I'm honest, everyone went out of their way to help and really care about you as a person and want you to be the best out there. When they said if you're stuck make sure you call, they meant it because they always was there.

The structure of the training and the pay was really good. The pay was very good to start out and gets better and better not only that you get the van on the very first day along with a fuel card (this was very helpful for me as I did not have a vehicle at the time)

The structure on training I found to be brilliant, I had it all in a folder and knew what I needed to do next, if I wasn't with my coach or my TL then the team knew what I needed to sign off/my capabilities.

There is no ceiling with MCFT, if you want it you can go get it, they offer promotions within and really treat people that work hard well. I could never imagined I would be running a team 6 years in but they spotted what I had to offer and have full confidence in me which is very much appreciated.

I owe a lot to MCFT and do not see myself going anywhere anytime soon, it really has given me a good stepping stone to have a good life inside and out of work.

Luke -  2022 intake - Refrigeration Trainee

Since joining MCFT the thing I've most enjoyed has been learning different skills that are required to do the job effectively and safely. Meeting all the teams within the office and out in the field there's a real sense of family within the business and everyone's trying to pull in the same direction.

As well as technical skills, I’m looking forward to improving my knowledge in other areas such as commercial awareness, the market, new technologies. In addition, my journey up the ladder to becoming a improver and completing my F-gas.

I think this is a fantastic career where, with the help and support of colleagues who makes life and the job smoother, you gain real skills and craftsmanship that lead you to a job/work you can be proud of. It’s great that we as a company and as individuals create relationships with customers to make the end goal a success.

I really enjoy the work life balance MCFT has provided me with coming from a hospitality background which is giving me a lot more quality time with my family. I’m really looking forward to doing my electrical training course so I can get my test equipment and start going to jobs on my own. I’m really enjoying my trainee engineer role at MCFT, there are not many companies that pay you to learn and I’m so grateful for the opportunity. Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming at

MCFT and it’s so easy to just pick up the phone and speak to someone about any problems you may have. Ryan and Mike in the training academy have been so helpful and really pushed us to get to where we are today. Customers have been great, they really make you feel valued when you're leaving them with a working bit of kit.

Johnathon - 2021 intake – Catering Trainee

What I enjoy the most about my role is that I'm constantly learning and finding out new things daily. I also enjoy it when I've managed to fix an issue with an appliance and making the customers happy. I enjoy the fact that every day is not the same.

What I'm looking forward to next is hopefully doing my gas qualification and learning more on gas appliances and potentially working my way up to a more senior level.

I think this is a fantastic career opportunity and I'm glad I've made the step into this sector providing me with an opportunity like this coming from a completely different working background. This is also a great career as you are constantly learning new skills and there will always opportunity to grow and gain experience.

Life with my colleagues is really good I feel I can call anyone and ask for advice if I'm stuck or need help. We all get along and I feel a family sort of vibe within the business.

I feel I've built a good relationship with some customers, and I've become a regular face which they appreciate – some treat me like I'm one of their colleagues and it's always a great feeling knowing they are happy with the service I've provided.

What I'm looking forward to next is moving forward with my career and becoming an engineer seeing where the MCFT journey will take me and what places I'll see.

I think as a career it's a fantastic opportunity that you really don't see other company's doing, to grow as an engineer and person. You meet so many different types of people doing this kind of job and that's also one of the things I like most about having this as a career for the foreseeable future.

I think what has made this apprenticeship enjoyable is the people who work at MCFT, from the top to bottom everyone is extremely friendly and approachable about any type of problems or issues even just a general chit chat. Mike our trainer has made it comfortable for us but also keeps us thinking when it comes to problem solving. And you see and meet customers who you'll be seeing regularly so you get to know them and it's great building a relationship.
