        What is our Technical Academy?

Our Technical Academy is a City & Guilds assured

in-house training programme that captures enthusiastic, motivated people, usually with no engineering knowledge and sees them through from trainee status to a fully qualified engineer within a 24 month period.

During the Technical Academy, you will be assigned a dedicated experienced coach who will provide you with the people, technical and commercial skills to successfully develop a long career with MCFT.

We are growing rapidly and to support this growth, we have a great opportunity for a number of Trainee Commercial Catering Engineers to join us each year.

This is a great opportunity for you to become a key part of our engineering team in a trade which rewards well.

We welcomed our successful trainees to our training programme in January and June last year.

Hear some of their thoughts about joining the team...

Could this be you?

If so, make sure you apply for our next intake in February 2024

Chris “I’m over the moon, fantastic opportunity, looking forward to the future!

Iain “I’m really really excited, so pleased to have been given this opportunity, thank you!”

Anson “I’m excited to start a new chapter and learn from the best!”

What does a typical day look like for our trainees?

There isn’t one! Every day is different, different locations and different customers - from schools and colleges to commercial kitchens at well-known sporting venues. You will be driving your MCFT van, shadowing your designated coach, spending hands on learning time at our off-site training facility in Berkshire.

You will be building your portfolio to evidence your competence in each area of the training programme giving a structured approach to your learning.

You will be carrying out preventive maintenance, call out and repairs on a wide variety of commercial catering equipment.

You will have your own allocated sites upon completion of the trainee programme where you will build relationships with your customers and really get to know the ins and outs of each kitchen you come across.

Sam's Story

Sam is currently going through MCFT's award-winning training programme which takes 2 years to complete.

He had never done anything like this before, but he was attracted by the family feel of the company, and was keen to do something hands-on rather than office based. He has come from a customer service background and has used those skills and already gained recognition from customers, including a major airline customer that has the reputation of being demanding.

Under the guidance of our technical leads, Sam is now carrying out work by himself such as installs. He recently installed a condensing unit and evaporator with pipework and electrics at Maidenhead United Football Club. The feedback from the job came back to Sam via the CEO who personally congratulated him.
