Group Director of Engineering

Salary: 90k + Car allowance & Benefits Package.

Location: Based at our office in Maidenhead with regular international travel.

We’ve reached the stage in our growth and development where we’re looking for a new member to join the senior team to develop and monitor our standards of technical excellence and compliance. Not just a new role for us but a unique role in our niche industry.

We are looking for you to combine engineering know-how with fluency in written and verbal communication, to develop industry standards and really set the agenda. We are a multi-faceted business, with technical areas that are quite specific to our sector. We’re looking for you to apply experience, a challenging approach, the ability to leverage team skills and knowledge – and the intellect to get this diverse business delivering further on its world-class aspirations.

Currently in the UK, Netherlands, Philippines, and the Gulf (teams in Dubai, Qatar and Saudi Arabia), our aim is to go further and offer our global customers (facilities management, QSR chains or equipment manufacturers) a single standardised service. We have ambitious plans to grow further in the UK, in Europe and to other parts of the world.

This is a challenging opportunity, and we are looking for focused and driven applicants who are comfortable with shouldering responsibility and leading our drive for technical excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and constantly evolving appropriate technical standards – from regulations associated with utilities to trade-body best-practice to manufacturer guidance. Starting in the UK and encompassing all the operating entities along with those on the development plan.
  • Produce internal policies, guidance, and monitoring processes.
  • Meet with the Learning & Development team to identify needs, discuss the appropriate programmes and a robust assessment.
  • Monitor and guide the audit calendar frequency and focus to ensure the outcomes of the audits are implemented.
  • Carry out risk assessments including CoSHH, Dynamic, Generic and SSoW.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the senior team.
  • Technology: horizon-scanning to stay on the front of the wave – IoT, AI, green technologies, interfacing with customer systems – and evolving market ready solutions.
  • Interface with industry bodies in the various territories -and input into consultations and developing standards.

Key relationships

  • Key internal relationships are with the Operations and the Training teams.
  • Key external relationships with manufacturers, trade associations and major customers.

You will need to:

  • Have a degree within Engineering. In many parts of the world, a university degree is the minimum standard for recognition of professional competence – and we already operate in a number of those territories.
  • Demonstrate the ability to review and formulate policies, set and monitor standards and deliver best practice. Man management experience: this is nothing if it’s not about the execution and implementation of standards under sometimes trying conditions: buy-in, engagement and yet firm compliance are key.
  • Have credible and responsible commercial experience.
  • Have significant experience with safe working practices including relevant regulations and qualification (IOSH or NEBOSH).

Nice to have.

  • Hospitality industry experience: to understand something of the range of technical challenges along with the relentless tempo inherent in business-critical response.

Our Company:

MCFT, established 30 years ago, provides commercial kitchen maintenance for high-end customers in the UK, Netherlands and the Middle East; we joke that we won’t work with customers unless we’ve heard of them - and it’s mostly true. We’re also highly regarded by all the key players in our multi-national supply chain.

Our ambition is to be the pre-eminent provider in our field - in the UK and, importantly, overseas - where we have ambitions to be working around the world. That ambition is supported by an IT division who work on new and future systems, enabling our field and office teams to tailor our services to evolving customer needs.

We believe our array of Awards testify to the genuine importance we attach to our team; we don’t have widgets or fancy software - our offer is around our people; if they are excellent at their jobs, we will have a great business.

The package:

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays that equates to 36 days holiday per year (7 weeks and 1 day)
  • Car Allowance
  • Health cash plan
  • Pension scheme
  • Income protection
  • Life insurance
  • Mobile phone & Laptop
  • Paid Travel
