The ability to communicate and an affinity for the fast-moving and entrepreneurial nature of a small business environment will be important attributes.

The mission is to grow a small business operating in a traditional, mature industry into a standard-setting, multi-national business model which enhances the lives of all it touches. For the last 5 years the business has achieved 28% compound growth, with a similar outlook and goal for the next 5 years.

The Finance Director will oversee the day-to-day activities of the finance team and ensuring that the company’s finance function is organised and efficient and produces accurate and timely financial accounts. A major part of the role will be working with Sales and Operations colleagues to provide them with key management information. An element of this will involve continued development – with internal and external resources – of our own bespoke and extensive ERP system.

Key accountabilities will be:

  • Management of the finance function and development of the finance team
  • Development and provision of key management reports to assist Sales and Operations colleagues – from forecasting to KPI’s
  • Preparation of budgets, forecasts and cash flows
  • Maintenance of financial ledgers and accounting processes
  • Preparation of Consolidated P&L and Balance Sheet
  • Timely production of statutory and internal financial reports
  • Financial modelling and analysis – working closely with IT to develop the key Dashboard KPIs
  • Cash management and treasury duties
  • Ensuring that appropriate systems and internal controls are implemented and maintained
  • Overseeing the Payroll process
  • Preparation of VAT returns

Core requirements of the role:

  • Fully qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent) with previous financial control and management reporting experience in an SME context
  •  Post-qualification experience leading and managing a small accounting team in a service industry
  • Confident self-starter, with the ability to operate in a dynamic, changing environment
  • Demonstrable attention to detail, sound commercial judgement, logical decision making, and a hands-on approach
  • Computer literate with very good Excel skills, a solid understanding of accounting software principles - and interest and competence, working with our IT team, scoping and focusing the development of our own ERP system – to provide real-time customer reporting as well as key management measures and dashboards.
  • Demonstrable attention to detail, sound commercial judgement, logical decision making, and a hands-on approach
