McFT welcomed six new trainees on Monday 16th January - the first of two cohorts planned for this year. Ahead of them lies a couple of years of intensive training – mixing classroom with site experience – and mixing technical skills with soft skills – CQ anyone ? – along with commercial insights – from working safely to industry knowledge.
Paul Brooker, McFT Technical Lead, commented : Over the years, we’ve proved we turn out really great engineers – and unlike the old days, when we’ve trained them, they stay with us – we want them to continue to progress – to senior engineers and team leaders. We have a team of mentors all prepared to look after the new intake – they get a real buzz out of seeing their charges progress – it’s a win, win, win for the company, the coaches and the trainees.
Paul has access to a number of teaching locations – including the snack kitchen completely refurbished at Maidenhead Football Club last year – but emphasises the need for classrooms, tests and reviews : we’ve found that using a structured plan with monthly review and quarterly progress meetings, ensures both parties keep on track. I’ve used the same process in my visits to our company locations in the Middle East – and it just makes sure everyone knows where they are on the plan
